Ultrasound Due Date Calculator

PanaKit's ultrasound due date calculator works out your due date from your scan date and the gestational age on your ultrasound (sonogram or USG) report. Add your last period date to see whether the scan should change your LMP due date. It runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.

Get Your Due Date From Your Scan

Which number do I enter?
  1. Find the date of your scan at the top of the report.
  2. Find the gestational age the ultrasound measured (GA by US, US GA or GA by CRL). Ignore GA by LMP or from dates.
  3. Enter weeks and days. 8+3 or 8w3d means 8 weeks and 3 days.
What does your scan report show?

The day the scan was done, not today's date.

Gestational age on the report

Use the age the ultrasound measured, often labeled GA by US or GA by CRL. Do not use the age worked out from your last period, often labeled GA by LMP or from dates. Labels vary by clinic.

Conceived with IVF? Dating normally follows your transfer date. Use the IVF due date calculator.

Your dates stay on this device. Due date = scan date + (280 days minus gestational age at scan).

How it's calculated

A full pregnancy is counted as 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of your last period. A scan tells you how far along you are on the day it was done, so the calculator counts the days that remain: due date = scan date + (280 days minus the gestational age at the scan, in days). The same scan gives an equivalent last period date (scan date minus gestational age) and a conception window, about 266 days before the due date with a few days either side, because ovulation timing varies. A first trimester scan is the most accurate way to date a pregnancy. ACOG advises changing an LMP-based due date only when the scan differs by more than the number of days shown below. These are estimates, and your provider's dating is the one to use.

Frequently asked questions

Add the days left in a 40 week pregnancy to your scan date. If your scan on 12 March said 8 weeks 3 days, you were 59 days along, so 221 days remain (280 minus 59), which gives a due date of 19 October. This calculator does the sum for you from the scan date and the weeks and days on your report.

Use the age the ultrasound measured, often labeled GA by US or GA by CRL. Do not use the age worked out from your last period, often labeled GA by LMP or from dates. Report labels vary between clinics, so ask your sonographer if you are not sure. If your report only shows a due date, enter it in the due date option of the gestational age calculator.

Sometimes. ACOG advises keeping the LMP due date when the scan is close to it, and using the scan due date when the gap is larger than a set number of days. That number depends on how far along you were at the scan: more than 5 days up to 8 weeks 6 days, more than 7 days from 9 weeks to 15 weeks 6 days, more than 10 days from 16 weeks to 21 weeks 6 days, more than 14 days from 22 weeks to 27 weeks 6 days, and more than 21 days from 28 weeks. Add your last period date above to see where your own scan falls. For a plain-English walkthrough of why dating scans move due dates, see gestational age vs fetal age.

A first trimester ultrasound is considered the most accurate way to date a pregnancy, because babies are most similar in size early on. A last period date works well when your cycle is regular and you are sure of the date, but it can be off if you ovulated earlier or later than day 14. When the two agree closely, providers usually keep the last period date.

Usually not. ACOG advises that once your due date is set from your first reliable dating scan, later changes should be rare. Scans later in pregnancy check growth, and a baby measuring a little ahead or behind then is normal variation, not a new due date. If your only scan was late in pregnancy, ask your provider how your due date was set.

Subtract 266 days from the ultrasound due date. The calculator shows a window of about three days either side, because conception timing varies. If that window does not match the date you expected, that is common. Sperm can survive for up to 5 days, so sex earlier in the week can still lead to a later conception. To work it out from other dates, use the conception date calculator.

Pregnancies from IVF are normally dated from the embryo transfer date, which is more precise than a last period date. Ask your clinic how they use scans alongside that date. Use the IVF due date calculator.

It is an estimate. A first trimester scan gives the most reliable dating, and accuracy drops the later in pregnancy the scan is done, because babies grow at different rates. Full term runs from 39 weeks 0 days to 40 weeks 6 days, and most babies arrive somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks.

Which number do I enter?

  1. Find the date of your scan at the top of the report.
  2. Find the gestational age the ultrasound measured. Look for labels such as GA by US, US GA or GA by CRL. Ignore the one marked GA by LMP or from dates, because that is only your last period date counted forward.
  3. Enter the weeks and days. A report that says 8+3 or 8w3d means 8 weeks and 3 days.

Example: a scan on 12 March 2027 says 8w3d. Your due date is 19 October 2027, your equivalent last period date is 12 January 2027, and your conception window is about 23 to 29 January 2027.

When does a scan change the due date? (ACOG Committee Opinion 700)

Gestational age at the scan (by LMP)Change the due date if the scan and LMP differ by more than
Up to 8 weeks 6 days5 days
9 weeks 0 days to 15 weeks 6 days7 days
16 weeks 0 days to 21 weeks 6 days10 days
22 weeks 0 days to 27 weeks 6 days14 days
28 weeks 0 days and beyond21 days

"More than" means larger than the number shown, so a gap of exactly 5 days at 8 weeks does not change the due date. Clinics and countries can use slightly different cut-offs.
