What is BMI?
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a simple number calculated from your height and weight. It gives a rough idea of whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese.
The Formula
BMI is calculated as:
BMI = Weight (kg) รท Height (m)ยฒ
For example, a person who is 70 kg and 1.75 m tall has a BMI of:
70 รท (1.75 ร 1.75) = 22.9 โ which falls in the Normal range.
BMI Categories

|---|---|
| Underweight | Below 18.5 |
| Normal weight | 18.5 โ 24.9 |
| Overweight | 25 โ 29.9 |
| Obese | 30 and above |
Limitations of BMI
BMI does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution. A bodybuilder may show as "obese" on BMI while being perfectly healthy.
